• Megan, 14, Preston said, “I’m in Scouting because I love camping, climbing and adventure. It’s through Scouts that I have had the opportunity to take part in these activities and learn new skills.”

• Mathew, 15, Chorley said, “I love taking advantage of the international opportunities Scouting offers. Scouting also allows me to volunteer with younger sections this is great because I enjoy teaching new skills’

West Lancashire Scouts

• Scouting gives my child the freedom to explore the outdoors and develop into a young adult. This is only possible because the adult volunteers.”
   
• Scouting is the largest co-educational youth movement in the UK with a total of 480,896 members
   
• Worldwide, there are well over 28 million members in over 216 Countries. Two thirds of the membership lives in developing Countries.
   
• The Aim of the Scouts Association is “To promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
   
• Scouting in West Lancashire has a membership of over 10,000 members in the following 8 Districts: Chorley, Blackpool, Preston, Ormskirk, South Ribble, Fylde, Wyre and Lonsdale.

• In May of 2009, TV adventurer Bear Grylls became the UK’s tenth Chief Scout
